A Ring On It

January 27, 2011

I was meeting a friend for dinner the other night. While waiting for her, I grabbed a seat at the bar. I was sitting next to a couple who appeared to be on a first date. I couldn’t help but eavesdrop, as I love a good dating story. The following is the conversation I overheard:
“Is your divorce finalized yet?” The man asked timidly.
“No. It’s still in the courts. I still wear my wedding ring. We made a pact to not take them off until it was all finished.”
She held up her left hand to display her ring finger, replete with both engagement ring and wedding band.
Awk-ward. I can only imagine how he felt. Probably a sense of relief that he wouldn’t have to put a ring on it. You know, since she already had one on.

I have decided I prefer to be on other people’s first dates rather than my own.

It’s a shocked face. The O is a big jaw dropped mouth

Thank you! Good stuff. And always better when it’s someone else’s awkward date! Thanks for reading and thanks for your comment!

This is so awesome. Why would you still wear your rings? I took off my engagement ring the moment the engagement was broken off!

Funny! That’s EXACTLY verbatim what her date said! That he took off his ring the second the said they were getting divorced! It made for a nice awkward moment all around.
